The blanket scarf is a fun accessory for fall that can add texture, color, pattern, and warmth to your outfits! It is also a versatile accessory as there are many ways to style and tie this type of scarf. Below I have included tips for wearing a blanket scarf, links to tying methods, and three outfits created from my Fall Capsule featuring this type of scarf.
Tips for wearing a blanket scarf:
- When styling a bold accessory such as a plaid blanket scarf, keep your earrings small. Pearl or diamond studs work well.
- If you have long hair, I recommend putting it up into a bun or a ponytail when wearing this type of scarf. It keeps your hair from catching on the scarf and helps accentuate your beautiful scarf.
- Although a blanket scarf is a voluminous accessory, it can still be worn by petite women. Good options for petite women include styling a blanket scarf as a braided scarf or wearing one as a belted shawl/vest.
- If you get a blanket scarf and it just feels too bulky, you can actually cut it in half. For instructions on how to cut your scarf and style it, refer to this post from Paige at Style This Life.
Methods for tying a blanket scarf:
There are multiple methods for styling/tying a blanket scarf. Some examples include the following: handkerchief, braided, infinity, front + back tuck, and halfway loop styles. Blanket scarves can also be styled as belted shawls and flyaway vests. This easy to follow video by EP Style shows several ways to style/tie a blanket scarf. LOVE these outfits Melissa! You nailed my style. The purple or cobalt is a color I haven’t tried before but I think I just might have to. Great tips on ways to style a scarf. I like the pulling back your hair idea. It does look weird when you have a big scarf and your hair is puffy around it! xx-S

Thanks, Shannon! I normally don’t wear a lot of blue but am really liking all of the beautiful blue shades that are out for fall. I definitely have to pull my hair up these days when wearing an oversized scarf. I’ve been rocking the messy bun throughout this pregnancy. 🙂 Melissa
